Riders slowly returning to ACT after pandemic shutdown

Antigonish Community Transit’s fixed route has been back up and running since early June.

However, ACT General Manager Madonna van Vonderen says COVID-19 restrictions mean they can only practically run Tuesdays and Fridays.

van Vonderen tells The Hawk, they haven’t fully recovered their pre-shutdown ridership.

“The numbers are not quite what they were before the epidemic hit, but we’re seeing some uptake,” she says. “It’s not where we’d like to have it yet, but there are clients who are very happy to have it back on the road.”

van Vonderen says it’s growing slowly.

She says they never shut down completely, even at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic their book-a-ride service was running.

van Vonderen says it was too important to community members, especially those who need to go to the hospital regularly.
