Antigonish man must pay former friend $20,000 dollars for broken jaw

An Antigonish man must pay over $20,000 to a former friend whose jaw he shattered.

A judge’s decision, released Wednesday, says Pablo Scrosati and Creighton Jewkes had been drinking together the night of their high school graduation party in 2015.

The two got into increasing verbal, text, and physical altercations after Jewkes embarrassed Scrosati in front of two young women at a party.

That lead to an early morning fight.

The court documents say Jewkes walked away after that fight, but Scrosati pursued and told Jewkes to punch him, or Scrosati would punch Jewkes.

Jewkes didn’t punch Scrosati, but refused to back down and, after counting down from three, Scrosati hit Jewkes, breaking Jewkes’s jaw.

Jewkes’s jaw was broken in two places, and two of his molars were dislodged.

The decision says Jewkes’s jaw no longer closes properly, his lower lip has 60 to 70 per cent sensation, and his chin has no sensation.

A judge ordered Scrosati to pay Jewkes $20,000 in damages, plus another $3,553.68 for expenses related to his medical care, and $13,881.34 to the provincal government for the cost of Jewkes medical care.
