Warden says local tourism campaign a success

The Warden of the Municipality of the County of Inverness says their vacation locally campaign has been a definite success.

Betty Ann MacQuarrie says they knew national and international tourism numbers would be bad this year, because of COVID-19.

MacQuarrie tells The Hawk that’s why they focused on highlighting the region’s tourism opportunities to people in the province.

“Especially outdoor adventures, there’s trails, there’s beaches, to promote that and encourage people to vacation in their own backyards.”

MacQuarrie says they started the campaign in August.

She says it’s working.

“There’s people that are going down to Cheticamp to visit the gypsum quarry and on the trail, on the Cabot Trail, on the beaches, the beaches have been really busy.”

MacQuarrie says they’re hoping that momentum carries through into fall.
