Local market gets $150,000 for solar panels

The Antigonish Farmers’ Market is getting $150,000 of provincial spending for solar panels.

Antigonish MLA Randy Delorey made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

A release from the Antigonish Farmers’ Market Association says the money will be used to install solar panels at the new building.

Antigonish Farmers’ Market Association Secretary Mike Ward says it’ll help cut costs for the organisation.

“This proposed Solar PV system will help to cover most of the electrical and heating operational costs,” he says. “And mitigate the risk of rising energy costs.”

He says the new solar system will ensure the long-term sustainability of the building.
