Bernard-Daisley elected We’koqma’q chief

A local First Nations community has a new chief.

We’koqma’q band members elected Annie Bernard-Daisley Wednesday night.

Bernard-Daisley, who defeated former chief Rod Googoo and two other candidates, spent six years as a band councillor.

She’s also the president of the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association.

Voters elected 10 band councillors; incumbents Stuart Basque, Cyrus Bernard, John Leonard Bernard, Tiny Cremo, Steven Googoo and Jason Bernard were re-elected.

Four newly-elected members will join them at the council table- Wallace Bernard, Peter Googoo, Stewart Peters and Brandon Poulette.
