Local sports preview (Saturday)

The two local teams in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League are on the ice.

The Northern Selects (2-0-2), who are undefeated to start the 2020-21 season, host the Penguins (2-2-0).

Puck drop at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre is 1 p.m.

It’s the first of back-to-back games for the Selects, who visit Halifax Sunday morning.

The Cape Breton Lynx (1-3-0), who have lost three of their first four games of the season, visit Halifax (1-1-2).

Game time is 3:30 p.m.

The Lynx play the second of two weekend road games when they visit the Penguins Sunday afternoon.

The Cabot Highlanders host the Basin Armada in a pair of weekend home games in the Nova Scotia U16 AAA Hockey League.

The Highlanders (1-1-0) split their first two regular season games against the Voyageurs in Dartmouth Oct. 24-25; the Armada (2-0-0) are perfect to start the season.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 6 p.m.

The teams play again in Port Hawkesbury Sunday afternoon.

The Novas are in East Hants to take on the Rangers in the Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League.

The Novas (0-3-1) remain winless to start the season; the Rangers (3-1-0) have won three of their first four games.

Game time is 3 p.m.

The Novas return home to host the Valley Wildcats in Antigonish Sunday afternoon.

The Cape Breton Eagles play the second of back-to-back road games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

They’re in New Brunswick to square off with the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Eagles won Friday night’s game between the teams, the first game in their 12-game season series.

Game time is 3 p.m.
