Leadership candidate promises local spending

A candidate running to be the next provincial Liberal leader and premier says he has an economic development plan for the region.

Labi Kousoulis was in Richmond Co. recently.

Kousoulis tells The Hawk he has a vision for the area.

“We have a thriving tech sector here in Cape Breton, but I notice there’s a gap in it,” he says. “That is on the ground decision-making in Cape Breton for the start-ups when they’re in the infancy.”

Kousoulis says he’s going to fix that by giving reps with the Cape Breton branch of the province’s start-up development corporation- Innovacorp- more decision-making power and $1 million annually for seed funding.

He says small business owners across the province also need more support.

“If we lose them, the effects on our economy will be great,” he says. “The loss of jobs will be great.”

Kousoulis says that’s why he’s committing $60 million in tax relief for small business owners province-wide.
