Local sports preview (Sunday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders visit the South Shore Mustangs in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.

It’s the second straight game between the teams in Bridgewater; the Islanders won Saturday night’s match-up, the first in their four-game season series.

Game time is 12 p.m.

The two local teams in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League wrap up their respective weekends.

The Cape Breton Lynx, coming off a tie in Halifax Saturday, play their second road game in as many days when they visit the Penguins in Dartmouth at 12 p.m.

It’s the fourth game in the six-game season series between the teams; the Lynx have won two of the first three.

The Northern Selects, who won against the Penguins in Dartmouth Saturday night, host Halifax at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre at 3 p.m.

It’s a match-up of the top two teams in the four-team league; Halifax has a slight edge in the six-game season series with a win and a pair of ties through the first four games.

The Cabot Highlanders finish off their home weekend series with the Kings in the Nova Scotia U16 AAA Hockey League.

The Kings won Saturday night’s game in Port Hawkesbury, the first of four regular season match-ups between the teams.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 12:30 p.m.

The Novas close out their weekend on the road in the Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League.

The Novas, winners in Bedford Saturday night, travel to Truro to take on the Bearcats.

The teams have met once so far; Truro won that game 3-2 in Antigonish in October.

Game time is 1 p.m.
