StFX VP says she doesn’t expect repeat of sanctions

Officials at StFX have released a list of disciplinary actions related to COVID-19 during the fall semester.

Elizabeth Yeo, the university’s vice-president students, says they informally resolved 145 instances.

She says they also handed down 124 formal reprimands, including four one-term suspensions and 30 fines between $200 and $500.

Yeo tells The Hawk they focused mostly on education.

“Reminding of the rules, enforcing the importance of the health protocols, emphasizing concern for community,” she says. “My expectation is that it’s all it’s going to take, that we’re not going to see repeats of those behaviours.”

Yeo says the fall semester was a learning experience for university officials and students alike.

She says the winter term will be better.

“My expectation is that those numbers would decrease,” she says. “Many of the cases that I reported on- the vast majority of them- would have been more lower level behaviours.”

Yeo say most of their students did exactly as they were asked, and she’s proud of them for that.
