The Cape Breton West Islanders are taking part in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League Showcase Weekend at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre in New Glasgow.
They face the Valley Wildcats at 2:30 p.m.
The Islanders (5-2-1), who have won back-to-back games and three of their last four, are tied with Dartmouth for third in the eight-team league with 11 points, a point back of Halifax and Pictou Co., who are tied for top spot, and four points ahead of the fifth-place Wildcats (3-4-1).
It’s the first game of the season between the teams.
Cape Breton West plays Pictou Co. and Dartmouth Saturday.
The Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals are on the road in the Northern Nova Scotia High School Hockey League.
The Royals (2-2-0) travel to Trenton to take on the North Nova Gryphons (2-0-2).
The teams have met once so far; North Nova won 4-1 Nov. 11.
Game time is 7 p.m.
The Halifax Mooseheads are on home ice for a pair of weekend games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
They host Pomquet’s Logan Chisholm and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
The Mooseheads (5-6-4), losers of three straight, are in a three-way tie with Cape Breton and Saint John for third in the six-team division with 14 points, four points behind the Titan (8-4-2) for second, and two points ahead of last-place Moncton.
Acadie-Bathurst has won the first two games in the 12-game season series between the teams; Chisholm has nine points (six goals, three assists) through the first 14 games of the 2020-21 season.
Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre is 7 p.m.
Halifax hosts River Denys’ Colten Ellis and Charlottetown Saturday night.
