The Cape Breton West Islanders continue play in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League Showcase Weekend at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre in New Glasgow.
The Islanders, who lost to the Valley Friday afternoon, play Pictou Co. at 11 a.m.
They take on Dartmouth at 5 p.m.
The two local teams in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League are on home ice.
The Northern Selects host the Penguins at the Keating Centre in Antigonish at 1:30 p.m.
The teams are at opposite ends of the standings in the four-team league; the Selects (7-1-2), who have one loss in the 2020-21 regular season, are in top spot with 16 points, five points up on second-place Halifax, while the Penguins (3-7-0) are last with six points.
The Selects have won the first two games in the six-game season series by a combined score of 15-1.
It’s the first half of a weekend home-and-home series; they play again in Dartmouth Sunday afternoon.
The Cape Breton Lynx host Halifax in Membertou at 5 p.m.
The Lynx (3-6-1), who have one win in their last four games, are third with seven points, four points behind Halifax (4-3-3) for second, and a point ahead of the last-place Penguins.
Halifax leads the six-game season series with a win and a tie through the first two games.
They meet in Membertou again Sunday morning.
The Novas have a pair of weekend home games in the Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League.
They host the South Shore Lumberjacks.
The Novas (3-6-1), who have lost two of their last three, are 10th in the 12-team league with seven points, a point behind the Lumberjacks (4-6-0) and Halifax, who are tied for eighth, and three points ahead of the 11th-place Valley.
