Local transit officials receive provincial funding

Reps with local community transit groups are getting some provincial funding.

Officials with the provincial government are investing more than $700,000 to help reps with 11 organizations buy accessible vehicles.

Reps with the Antigonish Community Transit Society and Strait Area Transit are getting $57,000 and more than $55,000- respectively- for new eight-passenger vans, while Cheticamp transit co-op members are in line for more than $17,000 for a five-passenger van.

Close to $118,000 in provincial funding will help launch the Eskasoni Transit Service, with a nine-passenger van that offers door-to-door service within the First Nation community, and a 20-passenger bus that provides fixed-route service between Eskasoni and Sydney.
