Richmond Co.’s warden says she sees much potential for the joint industrial park they share with Port Hawkesbury.
At December’s regular council meeting Monday night, councillors voted to extend NSCC’s lease for part of their joint park, where they conduct their heavy equipment operator course.
Afterward, Warden Amanda Mombourquette said council is looking at ways to develop and better use municipal infrastructure.
“There definitely is a desire for us to be more proactive on the development side,” she said. “Not just in the joint park, but in Point Tupper and throughout the county.”
Mombourquette said the NSCC is a great partner.
She said the municipality has the tools to make an opportunity at joint park.
“Great assets and some really great talent, not just at the council table but also at the staff level,” she said. “It’s time for us to harness that, and really look at what are the assets that we can bring to the table for future development opportunities, and the joint park is right up there.”
Council approved a one-year extension, however NSCC reps had asked for a five-year extension.
Councillors said there should be more discussion about a possible further extension, but that should be handled by the committee responsible for the joint park.
