Municipal councillors in Inverness Co. are taking complaints of shoddy landline service to the next level.
Councillors voted to send a letter to Bell’s president and board chair about the loss of landline service during power outages at February’s regular council meeting Thursday.
After, Laurie Cranton, Inverness Co.’s warden, told The Hawk they’ve gotten nowhere with the company’s local representatives.
“The comments we got back locally or provincially from the phone company was ‘Well just use your cell phone’,” he said. “Sorry- give us a cell phone and we’ll be happy.”
Cranton said cell coverage is spotty across the county.
He said they want a response as to what company reps are going to do to resolve the issue.
“If there’s no response from Bell, we’re telling them we’ll be forced to escalate the complaint- a little bit of a threat in there, but I think rightly so,” he said. “It’s something that many people in the municipality are concerned about, and I think we need to be heard on it.”
Cranton said the letter gives Bell representatives 60 days to give them a satisfactory answer, or they’ll register an official complaint with CRTC reps.
