A local air charter service could be coming to the region soon.
Dave Morgan, the president of Celtic Air Services, says they recently bought Axair Aviation, a charter air service.
Morgan tells The Hawk all they’re waiting on is regulatory approval.
“We’re looking to hit the ground running, but unfortunately we aren’t allowed to take our first steps just yet,” he says. “It’s not unusual to have air charter business working right alongside scheduled airlines, so we definitely want to ramp up and then continue growth across Eastern Canada.”
Morgan says the loss of big carriers due to COVID-19 presented the opportunity, but there is consistent demand for a small regional charter air service.
He says that means long-term possibilities as well.
“The more we’ve investigated, the more I’ve realized that it really has nothing to do with the big players,” he says. “Folks are changing their models and wanting to travel point-to-point directly to where they’re going.”
Morgan says they expect approval within weeks.
He says they’ll start charter flights across the east coast shortly after.
