81-year-old arrested after replica firearm incident

New Glasgow Regional Police arrested an 81-year-old man after a weapons complaint.

Police say the incident took place on Frederick Street.

They say two women knocked on the door of a residence, both were met by a male who reached into his apartment, picked up a handgun and threatened to kill both women.

New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crimes Unit conducted a search warrant of the residence and seized the handgun, which was determined to be a replica.

A patrol car located the suspect on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and transported him back to the police station.

The 81-year-old Pictou Co. man is charged with two counts of uttering threats, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and using imitation of a firearm in the commission of an offence.

He was released on strict conditions and will appear in Provincial Court on May 3rd.
