Council gets on-board with deep dive platform

Port Hawkesbury council is throwing its weight behind a deep dive platform.

Officials received a letter from the Atlantic Commercial Diving Centre requesting support for the installation the mobile platform, based out of the town, for training and commercial purposes.

Councillors voted send a letter of support to the company, and government officials, at their March regular council meeting Tuesday evening.

Afterward, Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton said it would help develop the whole region.

“Creating that critical mass of marine infrastructure, and certainly training and employment opportunities,” she said. “It really is exciting.”

Chisholm-Beaton said it would be a welcome addition to the town.

She says said there’s great synergy with NSCC’s Nautical Institute in Port Hastings.

“It really is about building capacity for oceans and marine innovation,” she said. “We certainly have that in spades.”

Chisholm-Beaton said it fits perfectly with the town’s waterfront development plan and plans for an ocean innovation centre on the waterfront.
