First Cape Breton creamery to open in spring

There’s no creameries on Cape Breton, but that’s about to change.

Skye Glen Creamery will open in the spring.

Meghan Brosens, the creamery’s co-owner, says her and her husband’s farm dream couldn’t become a reality in Ontario, so they moved to Inverness Co. in 2013.

Brosens tells The Hawk moving to the east coast to buy a farm made sense.

“Neither one of us (had) been past Quebec City, and we were like ‘You know, we can make this work’,” she says. “We moved, and it was the best thing we ever did- we love it here.”

Brosens says they wanted to open a creamery since they bought the farm.

She says their Inverness Co. location will offer milk and other products.

“Starting with chocolate milk as the flavored milk,” she says. “Maybe if there’s interest later on, (we’ll) do a seasonal milk like strawberry or cappuccino.”

Brosens says their products will be available at businesses across the Quad Counties.

She says they’ll also have a storefront in Skye Glen, which will feature a milk vending machine to fill glass bottles.
