The federal government has announced $2,050,000 in funding for an Inverness Co. First Nation.
Mike Kelloway, Member of Parliament for Cape Breton-Canso, delivered the news Thursday morning.
Kelloway says We’koqma’q First Nation’s WFN Fish Farm Limited Partnership will use the money to pay for upgrades to increase the number of fish harvested each year, as well as expand the company’s freezing and packaging capacity.
“We are proud to work with Indigenous communities like We’koqma’q First Nation,” he says. “It’s thanks to projects like this, that fresh local seafood products find their way across [the country] from coast to coast to coast.”
Kelloway says the spending will help WFN increase production at its fish farms and expand into new markets.
He says that will create jobs in the community.
