Richmond Co. landlords invited to housing coalition

Landlords in Richmond Co. are being invited to join a group working to develop housing strategy recommendations for the Strait Area.

The Strait Richmond Housing Matters Coalition put out the call Friday.

After the March regular council meeting in Arichat Monday, Richmond Co. Warden, and Coalition Co-chair, Amanda Mombourquette said they’ve worked with Port Hawkesbury landlords before.

“The group’s experience was that they really saw value in having that private sector perspective at the table, but they wanted to make sure that it was both regions,” she said. “The housing and homelessness situation might look a little different in Port Hawkesbury than it does in the more rural areas of Richmond Co., which makes sense.”

Mombourquette said it’s important to look at housing from all sides.

She says the industry experience those landlords bring is invaluable.

“We wanted to make sure that that private sector perspective was there.”

Mombourquette said they’re using an online survey to gather expressions of interest from landlords, and they’ll review all of them after the deadline for submissions on April 20.
