The Battle of Cape Breton resumes in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.

The Cape Breton West Islanders have a home-and-home series with the Sydney Rush.

The Islanders (12-10-3), who have won five of their last six, are fourth in the eight-team league with 27 points, six points behind the Valley and Dartmouth, the two teams tied for second, and two points ahead of fifth-place Pictou Co.; the Rush (8-15-1) are seventh with 17 points.

They’ve split the first two games in their four-game season series.

Game time in Membertou is 3:30 p.m.

The teams play again in Port Hood Sunday afternoon.

 

The two local teams in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League are on home ice.

The Northern Selects host Halifax in the opening game of their best-of-five provincial final.

The Selects advanced with a three-game sweep of the Penguins in the first round; Halifax knocked off Cape Breton in four games.

It’s a match-up of the top two teams in the four-team Nova Scotia division; the Selects (15-1-2), who had one loss during the regular season, finished in top spot with 32 points, 14 points ahead of second-place Halifax (7-7-4).

The teams met six times during the regular season; the Selects had the edge with a 3-1-2 record.

Puck drop at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre in New Glasgow is 3 p.m.; the series stays in New Glasgow for game two Sunday afternoon.

The Cape Breton Lynx play the Penguins in a best-of-five series to determine who finishes third.

The Lynx (7-10-1) were third in the regular season with 15 points, eight points ahead of the last-place Penguins (3-14-1).

Cape Breton won five of the six games in the season series between the teams.

Puck drop in Membertou is 5:30 p.m.; game two is in Membertou Sunday afternoon.

 

The Cabot Highlanders face the Fundy Thunder in game two of their Nova Scotia U16 AAA Hockey League playoff series.

The Highlanders won the opening game in the best-of-five, first-round series in Truro Friday night.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The series shifts to Port Hawkesbury for game three Thursday night.

 

The Novas wrap up the 2020-21 Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League regular season on the road.

They visit the Halifax Wolverines.

The Novas (11-11-2), who have lost back-to-back games after a six-game winning streak, are tied with the Wolverines (10-10-4) for sixth in the 12-team league with 24 points, a point behind the South Shore for fifth, and a point ahead of the Valley and Dartmouth, the two teams tied for seventh.

The teams have split the first two games in their three-game season series, both of which were decided by one goal.

Game time is 7 p.m.

 

The Pleasantdale Panthers play the Heatherton Warriors in game seven of their Antigonish Rural Hockey League playoff series.

The Warriors led the first-round series 3-1 after the first four games; the Panthers forced a seventh and deciding game with a 9-4 win in game six March 21.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena.

The winner advances to square off with St. Croix in the league final.

 

The Halifax Mooseheads travel to PEI to play River Denys’ Colten Ellis, Antigonish’s Sean Stewart and the Charlottetown Islanders in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Mooseheads (13-15-7), winners of back-to-back games, are fourth in the six-team Maritimes Division in terms of points percentage, behind Saint John for third, and ahead of fifth-place Moncton; the Islanders (27-4-0) are in top spot in the division, and entire league.

Charlottetown leads the season series 10-2.

Game time is 7 p.m.
