One person missing after vessel sinks near Cheticamp

A boat has sank in the Northumberland Strait.

JRCC Halifax received a call from the FV Tyhawk, 16 nautical miles west of Chéticamp and the crew indicated they were sinking.

During the call, JRCC lost the signal with the vessel.

There were 5 crew members on the boat at the time of the incident.

Immediately a helicopter, aircraft and two boats were dispatched to the scene.

A vessel in the area was able to find four crew members in the water, and transported them to the Cheticamp hospital.

Both aircraft are on scene conducting a search for the fifth person, alongside several local vessels and the CCGS Cape Spry.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
