Mulgrave officials to hold plebiscite on banning farm animals

Complaints involving backyard farm animals in a local town have come to a head.

Ron Chisholm, the mayor of Mulgrave, says they’re going to put those complaints to rest.

Chisholm tells The Hawk they’ve directed town staff members to investigate what’s required to hold a binding plebiscite on the issue.

“Finalize it and put a bylaw in effect one way or the other,” he says. “I think that we’re just tired- every time we turn around it’s on the agenda, and it’s a non-stop fight.”

Chisholm says they want to let the residents have their say.

He says they’re hoping to end the conversation for good.

“We’re going to let the residents have a (voice in deciding) whether or not there (are) farm animals allowed in the town.”

Chisholm says they’ll use that decision to guide a new farm animal bylaw.
