Yukon Premier, Antigonish native, loses majority

A minority government is the best-case scenario for Antigonish native Sandy Silver.

Silver, Yukon’s Premier and Leader of the Yukon Liberals, and his party lost their bid to retain a majority government in Yukon Monday.

However, the contest isn’t finished yet.

One riding has yet to report, but it may take days before a winner is declared.

The governing Liberals have eight seats, the opposition Yukon Party has eight as well, and the NDP has claimed two.

The vote count in the last riding is currently tied between the Liberals and NDP, there is no Yukon Party candidate running in that contest.

Even if the Liberals do not win the seat, leading to a tie between the Liberal and Yukon parties, the governing Liberals will have the first shot at forming government.
