Delorey says he’s happy to carry Liberal banner again

A local MLA says the chance to run as a Liberal candidate again is an honour.

Randy Delorey was acclaimed as Antigonish’s Liberal candidate at a recent virtual nomination meeting; he also represented the party in the 2013 and 2017 provincial elections.

Delorey tells The Hawk it’s a real show of confidence from members of the community, and he has set his sights on the future.

“Myself and the association here in Antigonish- the Liberal association members- felt it was appropriate to be ready.”

Premier Iain Rankin has yet to call an election, but he must do so by spring 2022 at the latest.

Delorey says we don’t know when the writ will drop, but it pays to plan ahead.

“Whenever an election is called, we’re ready to go out and campaign,” he says. “It’s about being prepared and ready, because we do know that at some point within roughly 12 months there must be an election.”

Delorey says COVID-19 means this election will be very different from the last two, and he expects more virtual campaigning than ever before.

He says his goals remain the same- representing the people and priorities of the community.
