Local heroes win Strang award

Two local residents have won the Dr. Robert Strang Community Hero Award.

The award recognizes unsung heroes who put others first and go the extra mile to serve their communities during COVID-19.

Michael Hatt of Melville and Mary Janet MacDonald of Port Hood are among 20 winners from 179 applications.

Hatt owns and operates the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Port Hawkesbury; MacDonald’s “Tunes and Wooden Spoons” Facebook live videos have a large social media following since they debuted early in the pandemic.

All winners receive a framed necktie signed by Strang, the province’s chief medical officer of health, and the face of the province’s COVID-19 response.
