Hines to represent Liberal Party in Guysborough-Tracadie

Lloyd Hines wants Guysborough-Tracadie residents to get what he calls “their fair share.”

Hines is the Liberal candidate running for Guysborough-Tracadie in the next provincial election.

He’s also the current MLA for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie, seeking to extend his tenure after eight years of serving the area.

Hines notes that every MLA legislature wants the same thing: funding to help their riding. So, he says, it’s important that an MLA be alert, forceful and that they have the trust of decision makers.

“There’s lots of money in government and it’s very competitive,” says Hines, “I want to get our fair share for our constituents and I think I’m pretty good at that, actually.”

As an MLA gaining the trust of decision makers means being well connected and maintaining good relationships with not only other politicians, but also bureaucrats, Hines says.

He references past projects he’s worked on securing that improved the lives of people in the Guysborough-Tracadie area, such as the twinning of Highway 104 between New Glasgow and Taylors Road in Antigonish County, and the pre-primary program.

Despite his years of service, Hines says he’s just as excited to be running now as he was when he first decided to seek the nomination nearly a decade ago.

Since being elected in 2013, Hines has held various positions in cabinet, including his former role as Minister of Natural Resources and his current role as Minister of Transportation and Active Transit.
