Several Strait Area schools will receive funding for upgrades and repairs.
The provincial government announced it will invest $6 million in schools across the province.
The money is meant to extend the life of buildings and facilities, and will cover 26 projects across all seven regional centres for education and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial, the province’s French language school board.
Individual projects range from $150,000 to $500,000 and vary by school and region.
Projects include energy efficiency improvements, parking and transportation upgrades, structural repairs, such as new windows, walls, roofs and doors, and cosmetic fixes.
Among the local schools and school facilites to receive funding are:
- Dr. John H Gillis Regional High, building envelope repairs
- Dalbrae Academy / Strathspey Place, parking lot paving enhancements
- Mabou Bus Garage, parking lot paving enhancements
- St. Andrews Consolidated School, roof repairs
- Antigonish Education Centre, drainage improvements in pre-primary and elementary playground areas
Some projects are already underway and are set to be completed this year, according to a news release from the province.
The investment is in addition to the recently announced $25 million investment in school upgrades by the federal government, under the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
The province has also committed more than $475 million between 2020 and 2025 for 23 new school construction projects.
