Municipal officials in Antigonish Co. say they’re pleased with tax collection so far.
Owen McCarron, the warden of the municipality, says they collected roughly 84 per cent of their total payments in the first month.
McCarron tells The Hawk they’re happy.
“We’ve been very fortunate,” he says. “84 per cent might be just a bit above the average.”
The municipality’s fiscal year ended March 31.
McCarron says early payment of tax bills is typical most years.
“Antigonish Co. residents have always made it a priority to pay their taxes,” he says. “They seem to like to do that fairly early, so we’re pretty pleased with that.”
McCarron says municipal officials weren’t sure if they could expect the same this time around, given the fact it was a pandemic year.
