The warden of Antigonish Co. says he’s hopeful for upgrades to a local road.
Owen McCarron says Old Maryvale Rd. has been an ongoing concern for residents.
McCarron tells The Hawk there are a number of pressing issues.
“Culverts weren’t sized well enough to handle the water, so there’s water coming over top of the road,” he says. “(There are) areas where it needed new culverts and some brush removal (and) some grading and gravelling.”
McCarron says residents presented to council and gave them a petition.
He says they’re hoping for bigger upgrades than what’s already planned.
“The residents were frustrated when they came into council this spring- they were frustrated with the condition of the road,” he says. “They’d just like to see some appropriate levels of funding put on it, because it’s fairly densely populated for a secondary road.”
McCarron says Lloyd Hines, the province’s transportation minister and the MLA for Guysborough-Tracadie, told municipal officials he’d pass along the concerns to the department’s area manager.
