Liberal says Cape Breton-Canso needs continued leadership

The Liberal candidate for Cape Breton-Canso says the party wants to keep up the good work they’ve done through COVID-19.

Mike Kelloway will carry the Liberal banner for the second time.

Kelloway tells the Hawk he was on the ground throughout the worst of the pandemic, learning what the community needed.

“For me it is really making that connection, engaging,” he said. “During COVID we were super, super engaged because you had to be, and you needed to be, and it was the right thing to do.”

Kelloway said there are still things to do.

He said tourism and long-term care need serious attention.

“What I’d like to see is a double down of investment for tourism and the gig economy, because it’s such an integral part of our riding and we’re super committed to that,” he said. “We need to have national standards, in terms of long-term healthcare for seniors, that are strategic, clear, and enforceable with the provinces.”

Kelloway said there needs to be a strong plan out of the pandemic.

He said the federal Liberals showed they mean businesses in the fight against COVID-19, and are the best choice forward.
