Man sentenced in arson case

A man who pleaded guilty to an arson charge following a fire in Inverness Co. has heard his sentence.

Police say officers responded to a boat on fire at a Cheticamp business in December.

They say they investigated, and determined the fire was deliberately set.

Blaze Anthony Basker, 47, pleaded guilty during an election-and-plea hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court in June

Basker returned to court for sentencing on Thursday.

Basker will serve two years and one day in custody in a federal facility. He’s also required to submit a DNA sample to police and will have a 10-year firearms prohibition.

No one was hurt in the fire.
