Heavy garbage pickup may curb illegal dumping, warden says

If you live in the Municipality of the C0unty of Inverness and need to get rid of some heavy garbage, you may soon get the chance.

At a regular council meeting early this month, Council talked about planning a pick-up.

Warden Laurie Cranton tells The Hawk, he’s received complaints of illegal dumping, and he hopes this will curb the behaviour.

“It gives people that maybe tend to illegally dump — which is a terrible thing to be doing — another opportunity to get rid of that garbage.”

Council was in support of the idea, Cranton says.

But organizing a heavy pick up isn’t cheap.

” You’re talking over $100,000 for the municipality to have a heavy item pick up where people can put out old fridges, stoves and chesterfields.”

Council is currently working to figure out the most efficient way to roll out a pick up, he says.

They hope to get the process moving forward soon.
