Positive COVID cases at Truro prison

Eight inmates at a women’s correctional facility in Truro have tested positive for COVID-19.

The news came in an email to media from Correctional Services Canada (CSC) on Tuesday.

In-person visits are temporarily suspended at the Nova Institution for Women. However, alternatives are being offered to connect inmates with family and support networks, CSC say in the email,

COVID-19 testing is being offered to inmates and staff; employees are required to produce a negative rapid test before entering into the site to prevent possible spread at the institution.

Inmate testing numbers are available on CSC’s website.

To date, 90% of inmates at the federal facility are fully vaccinated and close to 92% have received at least one dose.

CSC says they’re monitoring the situation closely.
