Police investigating after dog shot and killed in rural Nova Scotia

An investigation is underway after a dog was shot and killed in Nova Scotia’s Guysborough County.

Police were called to a report of the shooting in the community of Marie Joseph just after 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Mounties say the dog was outside the night before and the owner was not home at the time.

A neighbour called the owner to tell them the dog had died from its injuries.

Investigators believe it happened sometime between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The death was reported to the police the next day.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area or heard gunshots near Highway 7, or Bakers Road, to call 902-522-2200.

Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers.
