Local Woman Fundraising For New Prosthetic Leg

One local woman is fundraising in hopes of purchasing a state of the art prosthetic leg.

Arielle Vienneau of Port Hawkesbury has set up a Go Fund Me in hopes of gathering the amount that her health insurance doesn’t cover.

That amount being roughly $48 thousand.

She says while the idea of a Go Fund Me started out small, the support she’s received has been amazing.

“It honestly started out as just between family members saying you know, well maybe we can scrape some dollars to help out and can you make a go fund me page and kinda just took off from there.” Vienneau said.

She says the new prosthetic will greatly impact her quality of life with what it will allow her to do.

“It’s a waterproof, microprocessor leg that has electronic components in it. Basically what it does, it has different modes in it and also fall protection so it allows me to have like a natural walking gate. It also allows me to be waterproof so that’s against all nature elements.” She said.

Vienneau lost her leg after an injury when she was 14 but that hasn’t stopped her from living life to the fullest.

She has a full time career with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, is a member of the Disability Advisory Committee at the Civic Centre, and she’s represented Team Canada in volleyball and sprinting.
