Bulldogs Win, Advance to Division Final

It took overtime but the Antigonish Bulldogs came away with the series after their 2-1 win over the Strait Pirates last night.

Sam Mattie scored the winner with three minutes and 22 seconds left in overtime.

The series finished in six games, which saw the Dogs take their first couple of regulation losses of the year.

Antigonish Head Coach, Donnie Grant, says those losses will be learning experiences going forward.

“We didn’t face a whole lot of adversity in the regular season so it was tough losing in a playoff game, let alone back to back, so it really tested us and I think it’s going to make us stronger for the next round for sure.”

Grant also says team staff and players are happy to be continuing their playoff run.

“Right now we’re just happy to be going into round two and we know we have a tough opponent in the Miners. They had a great season they have lots of skill, great defensemen, so we have to be ready for that.”

The Bulldogs will face the Membertou Jr. Miners for the Sid Rowe Division title.
