Town Aims for Accessibility Upgrades

The Town of Port Hawkesbury is looking to make more upgrades in accessibility, both short term and long term.

During a special council meeting this week Town of Port Hawkesbury staff discussed plans for making the town more accessible for people with disabilities.

Accessibility Advisory Committee Co-Chair Mathew Higgins along with Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton presented a plan which will be further reviewed at the next public meeting of council.

Some of the accessibility upgrades that were proposed include a ranking system of accessibility for the community trails, better accessible housing and access to the food bank, upgrades to the Granville Green such as a viewing deck and accessible washrooms, more automatic doors at the Civic Centre, better parking for the Strait Area Pool and benches along town sidewalks.

The next meeting is set for April 5th.
