The Mounties have charged a 31-year-old man with theft after a convenience store was robbed in Antigonish on Tuesday.
RCMP responded to the business on James Street at around 5:30 a.m.
Officers were told a man walked into the store and informed the clerk he wanted the money in the cash register.
He ran away once he grabbed the cash. No one was hurt.
“Violence was not threatened, nor was there a weapon involved,” a news release says. “A description of the suspect was provided to investigators.”
Police say they soon learned the same suspect had tried to break into an ATM at a bank on College Street before the convenience store robbery. The ATM was damaged but was not successfully broken into.
Police arrested the suspect at around 3:15 p.m.
Jed Douglas Decoste of Tracadie has been charged with Mischief over $5,000, Theft under $5,000, and Failure to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order.
Decoste was set to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on Tuesday.
