The NSCC Foundation held a dedication event at the Strait Area Campus yesterday in honour of the late Margaret Mary Cook.
This was held in recognition of Cooks 2-million-dollar estate being gifted to fund student awards at the campus. The donation was made to assist students that require financial assistance to help them fulfil their ambitions.
Captain Vivek Saxena, the Principal of the Strait Area Campus stated that Cooks gift is a substantial investment for students and will support generations of graduates from all programs.
The Margaret Cook and Dr David Cook Bursary will fund up to 35, $2,000 awards annually at the campus, awards available to full time students in any year of study in any program.
“My dear late wife, Margaret, was a proud Nova Scotian. She was modest and never lost sight of her simple background. The success that she and her late husband, Tony Crolla, had in business, is a testament that hard work can bring great awards.” said, David Cook the husband of Margaret Mary Cook.
The college has also renamed the Strait Area Campus Learning Commons, to Margaret Mary Cook Learning Commons to show their appreciation and to reflect her commitment to supporting students.
Cook was well known as a hard worker that gave back to the community.
