Two community centres in Inverness County could soon receive municipal funding for efficiency upgrades. Community grant applications from the two organizations requesting financial assistance were discussed at this morning’s committee of the whole meeting in Port Hood.
The Lake Ainslie Craft and Weavers Guild has a building in Scotsville, and they are looking to become more energy efficient by replacing their oil-fired heating system with heat pumps.
The Craft and Weavers Guild submitted a funding application to Efficiency Nova Scotia and the organization will be funding 80 percent of the project. Efficiency Nova Scotia also conducted an audit of the building. The other grant application came from the Cranton Cross Road Community Centre. They also want to upgrade to a more energy efficient heating system and they plan to switch to LED lighting fixtures.
The recommendations to fund these projects will be brought up at the next council meeting for approval. If council votes in favour, the county will fund the remaining 20 percent of The Lake Ainslie Craft and Weavers Guild and the Cranton Crossroads Community Centre would receive assistance from District Two Community District Development Fund and the Scotia Wind Fund.
Inverness County residents that would like to improve the energy efficiency of their homes can take part in a clean energy financing program conducted by Clean Nova Scotia. You can learn more at: Clean Energy Financing | Clean Energy Financing
