Celtic Air Service Building a New Hanger and De-Icing Facility at MacEachern Airport

The Allan J MacEachern Airport is getting upgrades to prepare for winter.
Celtic Air Services announced that a new ten thousand square foot hanger will be constructed to accommodate larger aircraft and a de-icing facility will be built as well. These additions will allow the airport to provide greater access to timely emergency services for the Strait Area during the winter months.

Celtic Air Services President David Morgan stated that the most important flights that use the facility are EHS LifeFlight Operations and they are sometimes not able to land due to ice. Morgan is excited to finally bring these upgrades to the airport and welcome winter traffic of all types, adding that the new hanger and de-icing facility could also attract new businesses.

“Community leaders have expressed their desire for these much-needed improvements that are integral to the safety of local Nova Scotians.” says Celtic Air Services Co Owner and EverWind Fuels CEO Trent Vichie. EverWind Fuels is finalizing plans to unlock a green hydrogen economy for Nova Scotia in Point Tupper and the upgrades are key to the safety and sustainability for the region. “The Region is seeing significant growth. We know that as clean, green hydrogen expands into the area, a year-round link becomes more important.” stated Vichie.

Port Hawkesbury Mayor Brenda Chisholm welcomed the announcement calling the upgrades great news for the region. Minister of Health and Wellness Michelle Thompson says infrastructure that allows emergency workers to operate in winter weather will mean medical professionals can get to their patients in a hurry. Richmond County Warden Amanda Mombourquette also welcomed the announcement. “Richmond County is attracting international attention as a potential hydrogen production hub, The Allan J MacEachern Airport is a key asset in ensuring we have robust air access to the region to support that growth and the safety of people located here.”

The plan will see construction begin this fall and the new facilities are set to be operational in early 2023.
