Another Voluntary Evacuation Organized for Indian Gardens

The Emergency Management Team for the county and town of Antigonish has organized a voluntary evacuation of the Indian gardens area in response to rising tide levels.

“ Over the night we had regular patrols in town to assess damages and monitor water levels including the Wrights River behind Indian Gardens” says EMT Information Officer Shannon Long. “On one of those patrols early this morning, personnel noticed water levels were starting to rise quickly and as a precautionary measure we set up an evacuation centre at the Beech Hill Fire Department.”

Transportation was provided for these residents by Antigonish Community Transit.

The Antigonish Emergency Operations Centre continues to operate at town hall and the EMT will continue to meet to coordinate damage assessments and appropriate responses.

There are still downed power lines and debris on roads in the area and residents are advised to stay off the roadways.
