Guysborough to Benefit from Canada’s Active Transportation Fund

An announcement was made by MP Mike Kelloway last Friday that over three million dollars will be put aside for the town of Guysborough. The funding will come from the federal Active Transportation Fund and the Municipality of The District of Guysborough.

“The funding is going to extend the present sidewalks in Guysborough, its going to extend them in a northerly direction up to and including the hospital and nursing home and in a southerly direction to the Chedabucto Mall that will tie in the coffeeshop and mall facilities, and we are going to put sidewalks in Sunnyville and up to the schools also” Says Warden Vernon Pitts. “Sidewalks are going to be great for the community, its going to give safe transportation from one end of the community to the other.”

The lack of sidewalks in some areas makes it dangerous for pedestrians walking on the side of the road, these sidewalks will hopefully address this problem

Work on these sidewalk extensions are expected to begin next spring.
