Little Spirits Society of Cape Breton Hosting “Wave of Light” Event in Port Hawkesbury

Baby Loss Awareness week runs from October 9th to the 15th and the Little Spirits Society of Cape Breton is having a Wave of Light event here in Port Hawkesbury.

The Port Hawkesbury Active Transportation bridge will be lit with pink and blue lights at the event and participants will be given glow sticks. This will begin at 6:30 PM on October 15th which is also Pregnancy and Infancy Loss Remembrance Day. “At 7PM, they ask people to either light a candle or put on pink or blue lights and leave it lit for a minimum of one hour, that way there’s a wave of light carried around the globe in each time zone.” Says Organizer and Little Spirits Society President and Co founder Christine Dowling.

Dowling herself lost two babies and started the Little Spirits Society to provide help to others on Cape Breton that suffered similar fates. They are currently looking for board members from Port Hawkesbury and Richmond County and people interested in joining are asked to email: littlespiritssociety@gmail.com

  • Kelly MacMillan lives in Port Hawkesbury with her husband and son. She has been part of the team at 101.5 The Hawk for more than 25 years, sharing stories from around the region. You can join her weekdays from 10am until 2pm.
