You can improve your problem-solving and critical thinking skills when you engage with math.
That’s according to the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) which is designating March as Math Month.
The SRCE invites students, staff and families to join the celebrations this month and year-round by setting aside time for exploring math concepts with children and youth to build their math confidence.
They recommend families do activities that use math together, including measuring ingredients while cooking, budgeting for groceries, estimating travel time, playing board or card games, and analyzing patterns in nature.
Encouraging students to participate in problem-solving and reasoning develops logical thinking, spatial awareness, number sense and perseverance, according to the education centre.
They say mathematical thinking is essential for lifelong success.
