Antigonish County District RCMP Investigating Rash of Vehicle Thefts

The Antigonish County District RCMP is investigating a series of vehicle thefts that occurred over the weekend in the Antigonish area.

On the evening of January 7th, the police responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 316 in St Andrews. Officers learned that a passerby had observed a Volkswagen Jetta on its roof in the ditch, but that no one was present in or around the vehicle. RCMP officers located a stolen catalytic converter, tools, clothing, and various personal items. The items were seized and transported to the Antigonish RCMP detachment.

The following morning, Officers responded to a report of a Ford Focus that was off the road near the intersection of Highway 4 and West Street in Antigonish. The vehicle had been stolen and officers located more personal items in the vehicle, that were later returned to their rightful owner.

At 7:25 AM, officers responded to a report of a theft of a wallet from a Honda HRV that was parked in a hospital parking lot. The officers also located and seized a Kia Sorento in the hospital parking lot and determined that it had been stolen from the Lower Sackville Area on January 6th.

At around 1:25 in the afternoon the RCMP responded to a report of a Black 2019 Toyota Tacoma that was stolen from a parking lot on Smith Way in Antigonish. The theft occurred sometime between 10PM on the 7th and 1PM on the 8th. The Tacoma was bearing the Nova Scotia license plate GWD286 at the time it was stolen.

At 2:45PM a report came in of a black Toyota Corolla that was stolen from a parking lot on West Street in Antigonish. That vehicle was located on January 9th around 3:40 AM in Pictou County.

About an hour later another report of a stolen vehicle came in, this time a white Nissan Micra was stolen from an apartment building on Haley Road. It was later found on Westville Road in Pictou County.

Many of these vehicles were not locked at the time they were stolen or rummaged thorough and some also had keys left in them. The Nova Scotia RCMP would like to remind the public to remove their keys from their vehicles when not in use and to lock their vehicles.

Anyone with information about the 2019 Toyota Tacoma bearing license plate GWD286 should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or The Antigonish County RCMP at 902-863-6500

The investigations are ongoing.
