Antigonish food banks get piece of federal funding

The federal government is splitting $100,109 between some food banks in the province, two of which are in Antigonish Co.

Central Nova MP Sean Fraser made the announcement in Pictou Friday.

Fraser says food banks play an important role protecting vulnerable people in their communities, especially during COVID-19.

“This support will enable them to continue their operations and allow our community members to focus on the well-being of their families,” he says. “Rather than putting food on the table.”

Locally, some of the money will be going to the Antigonish Community Food Bank and StFX Student Food Resource Centre.

It is part of a $100,000,000 emergency fund for food security announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in April.
