The provincial NDP candidate for Antigonish says we need real leadership out of this pandemic.
Moraig MacGillivray ran under the NDP banner against Liberal incumbent Randy Delorey in the 2017 contest.
MacGillivray tells The Hawk Delorey served as the province’s health minister for much of the early COVID-19 pandemic but was conspicuously absent.
“Dr. Strang deserves the credit for how well it’s been managed, Stephen MacNeil showed good leadership during the first and second wave, but Randy Delorey, we didn’t hear much from him,” she says. “He was pretty absent, whereas across the country health ministers would be in the press conferences, and they would be front and centre, but we didn’t hear much from Randy.”
MacGillivray says she’s focused on healthcare, long-term care, and the social safety nets for all our communities.
She says Delorey had a chance to make progress on those issues, including a stint as health minster.
“We haven’t seen a lot of movement in those areas in the past four years, or beyond,” she says. “I’m hoping to bring that voice to the conversation again this time.”
MacGillivray says we need real leadership as we push toward pandemic recovery.
