How are Shelburne County residents feeling now that charges have been laid in the largest wildfire in Nova Scotia’s history?
Barrington Warden Eddie Nickerson says it depends who you ask.
“There were a lot of upset people, and there are still people displaced from their homes. How you feel depends on the level of impact. It was devastating to our community,” says Warden Nickerson.
In a joint-statement with Shelburne Warden Penny Smith, they say they’ll be closely monitoring the justice process, and hope it brings closure to the victims.
The Barrington Lake fire damaged or destroyed dozens of homes and buildings last May.
“For some, this will help with the healing and for some there will still be resentment and anger. We are starting to get back to normal, and rebuilds are underway,” added Nickerson.
22-year old Dalton Clark Stewart is facing 3 charges under the Forests Act, and will appear in court on March 7th in Shelburne.
